http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2013/04/29/9-things-not-to-say-to-someone-with-mental-illness/

Summary of Things (please read the actual article):
1. “Get busy, and distract yourself.”
2. “Do you want to get better?”
3. “Change your attitude.”
4. “Stop focusing on the bad stuff, and just start living.”
5. “You have everything you need to get better.”
6. “You can snap out of it. Everyone feels this way sometimes.”
7. “Just pray about it.”
8. “Why can’t you work?”
9. “You have the same illness as my ______.”

Wow. I find it rather sad that these responses are so typical. Don't ask how I know, but I do know that even a suicide hotline will use these on people. That seriously bothers me. Chances are if you're like me, you've had most (if not all) of these things said to you, and weren't at all helped in the process. Not fun.

To people who say these things, ... well, how about don't say those things to people who struggle with mental problems, k? You do far more harm than good. Trust me, and if not me, then the psychology guys that were being quoted in that article. For what to do instead, see what the article says.

Mental illness is pretty close to the top of the list of topics that society tends to be uncomfortable discussing - which isn't good, because it makes it even harder for people to seek and receive the help they need. A lot of people aren't sure how to comfort those dealing with problems, and bad news can bring out the worst in the not-so-nice folks.

A bit late, but I couldn't help but notice this.

You okay, man?

Having a mind that absolutely refuses to work on your terms sucks, as do the multitude of problems (and sub-problems) this causes. I'd rather not go on beyond that. Please don't worry about it.
